1st Birthday – Glendale, CA – 4/13/24

The first of two Atam Hatik parties from this past weekend!

Most people don’t know what an Atam Hatik is, so, let’s clarify! Atam Hatik is an Armenian tradition celebrated when a baby has grown out their first tooth. “Atam” means tooth and “Hatik” means wheat (which is then sprinkled on top of the baby’s head).

In most cases, a baby’s first birthday celebration and Atam Hatik are combined and celebrated together. Family members gather around and place the baby in the center of the table. A tulle fabric is held above the baby’s head while family members sprinkle the wheat.

Five objects are placed in front of the baby and whichever object is picked predicts the baby’s future occupation or career.
